Former Insulated Wire & Cable Manufacturer, Boston, MA

The animation below shows the before and after versions of the site.

CDW was responsible for the investigation and remediation of a lagoon used for recirculating process water from a former insulated wire manufacturing facility. CDW completed groundwater, soil, and lagoon bottom sample analyses to identify and evaluate groundwater and soil contamination, and the extent of contamination around the lagoon.  The site was used for industrial manufacturing since the beginning of this century, and the process water from the manufacturing had been circulated through a man-made lagoon for decades. CDW prepared remediation plans to dewater and excavate contaminated lagoon bottom material and soil surrounding the lagoon in accordance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan. The excavated material from the lagoon and railroad spur was stockpiled, characterized and disposed of at an off-site facility.  Upon completion, CDW completed a risk assessment and achieved a condition of no significant risk for the site.  CDW filed a Response Action Outcome Statement with the DEP to achieve regulatory closure and allow redevelopment of the property.
