The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) needed to repair and rehabilitate the General Edwards Bridge, which spans the Saugus River from Revere to Lynn. As part of the design team, CDW was responsible for the environmental permitting. This included the Notice of Intent under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act as well as representing the agency at local conservation commission meetings.

It was during this process that CDW environmental specialists identified a state species that was under the protective jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act. CDW worked with the parties involved to realign the project schedule to the time of year that would not negatively affect the species habitat.
